Why?

Today I just want to share from our hearts about why we are adopting. I know some of you may have found your way to our little blog because someone told you about the Country Fair. Maybe you have no idea who we are or anything about our story. Or maybe you've heard our story so many times you're sick of it. But I thought I should take this chance to share our hearts and explain just what we are doing.

God broke our hearts for the orphans of this world. Can you imagine being one of those kiddos? I look at our kids whining because they want another cookie or when they grab my face in their little hands to make sure they have my full attention - and I think of the little ones that have no one to listen to them, no one to hold them like only a parent can, no mommy to bake them cookies, no daddy to take them outside to play, no siblings or cousins to play with or grandpas and grandmas, aunts and uncles to spoil them. Tiny babies in rows of cribs with no one to hold them and snuggle them - no reason to even cry. And it completely breaks our hearts. These innocent kids did not create whatever the situation that landed them without parents. Whether they are in an orphange halfway across the world or in foster care or wherever they are right now. And there are MILLIONS of them.

I know that God loves them and has a special plan for each and every perfect one of them. But I can't pretend that I don't know about them and don't care about them. God has called us to do something about this situation. To love them extravagantly like He loves us. And for our family that means mountains of paperwork, world traveling, and holding on with all that we have that God is orchestrating all the many details that still need to fall in place so we can make a lonely little boy our own. We are continuing the needed, but seemingly endless, paperwork to send to Russia. And soon there will be one less orphan in this world, one less cry unheard, one more very loved little boy.

We are so thankful for family and friends that care enough to support us and pray for us. And for a body of believers that understand the love of the Father and answer His call to love each other. And we're grateful that they are working so hard to put together a fun event to support us in our adoption.

So that's the story behind the Because We Care Country Fair. Hopefully we can share more with you on Saturday at the Fair!!!

More Country Fair details

I hope you're all as excited about the Country Fair as I am! We should have fliers coming out pretty soon with more details (I'll post it here as soon as it's done), but we are busy organizing some fun stuff!

Maybe you are wondering if there's some way that you can help! Well, if you have any of the following items and would like to donate them we would really appreciate it!

  • Pumpkins

  • Baked goods - I know some of you are awesome bakers!!! We are having a baked goods booth so whip up a pie, rolls, whatever homemade yummy is your specialty and we will sell them! Somebody's mouth and tummy will enjoy your creation and every bite gets us closer to bringing our child home!

  • Items for a silent auction - People will bid on items that have been donated. So maybe you are crafty, or you have tickets to something, or a service you provide, or whatever it is that you can think of that you want to donate that people could bid on. Someone will enjoy their purchase and help fund our adoption at the same time!

  • Or just show up on October 1st and have fun with us! We'd love that too.

If you have questions or would like to donate something I mentioned above, please email me at rcvogt02@hotmail.com. Thanks!

2.5

Addyson and Braden are 2 1/2!!!

We celebrated their half birthday on Saturday, September 3rd!!! This year they were old enough to get excited!! I asked what color frosting they wanted. Addyson picked pink and Braden picked blue so that's what we had. Addyson likes chocolate (she must be watching her mama a little too much!!) so we had chocolate cake and she helped me do all of it. Braden was off helping daddy.

This is now how Addyson smiles when you ask to take her picture. Nice.

Digging in!!! They were excited about eating it too!

Saturday also marked the beginning of college football season. (see our OU??) Boomer Sooner!

And after over 50 days of 100+ degrees this summer (we have officially lived through the hottest summer on record) God sent cooler weather for their half birthday! We aren't supposed to get out of the 80's for days!!! Yeah, lots to celebrate!!!

We also got to see Logan (remember our friends from NICU??). What an added blessing on Saturday to watch him run and play and talk. God brought our tiny babies a long way - from fighting for their lives hooked to tubes and monitors and now 2 1/2 year later we are chasing them around and trying to keep them safe and out of trouble! How easy it is to foget all that God has done in their lives.

Addyson also had her 6 month weight check this morning. She is now 33 inches tall and weighs close to 22 pounds. She was so terrified at the pediatrician's office - but we learned she is in the 6% for height and inching closer and closer to the charts for her weight - the curve is in sight!! Way to go big girl!
