big accomplishments

Look who's driving her pink jeep!!!

On Sunday night right before bath time Braden was playing in the living room and I went over to tell him it was time to take a bath and he told me he had pottied. Yep. Sure did. All over the carpet . . . and his pants . . .and undies . . . and socks . . . and . . . . I was feeling pretty discouraged in our potty training adventure. So even though I thought it was pointless I sat Addyson on her potty chair while Braden was playing in the bath tub as I cleaned up the afore mentioned potty accident. She needed to stay out of the way anyway so we might as well make her try. All of the sudden I heard something - it sounded like water running and I turned around and Addyson was pottying!!! This has NEVER happened for me before. Little girl pottied for Miss Twila over a month ago but absolutely nothing at all since then. I was so excited and telling her good job (and there may have been a little screaming and jumping around) that I scared her and she immediately stopped pottying. Monday she never went all day and we figured it was a fluke. But she was proud of her pullup and told me several times she needed to go and actually tried so I held on to hope that it would happen again. But on Tuesday she pottied 4, yes FOUR, times in the potty chair!!!!! I am so proud of her. I really didn't think that she would potty 4 times before her 4th birthday if you asked me last week. Crazy girl. I think she is catching on!!!! Woo-hoo. She stayed dry all morning and even told me that she needed to poop, and did. Yeah!!!! It is way too cold to play outside today so we backed the car out of the garage and these two drove around. There were only a few fender benders between the jeep and the tractor but nothing too serious :)

Another big accomplishment for Addyson -

remember all the pictures like this???

yeah - totally sucking those thumbs that she loved oh so much.

As you might remember last summer we played a game called "hide your thumb" and Addyson quickly gave it up . . . during the day that is. But at night I would hear her over the monitor sucking them really hard. They used to have HUGE calluses that would still get cut and bloody whenever she was getting teeth or seriously sucking those babies. I decided since potty training wasn't happening we should work on no more thumb sucking instead. Besides, thumb sucking was going to be affecting her teeth and her mouth forever while pottying had to eventually happen, right???

So, little girl wore wraps for naps and bedtime for about 3 weeks or so. It was just kids pre-wrap with some tape to secure it. And to our surprise she LOVED wearing them. She asked for them if we forgot her wraps. And most of the time she would leave them on until someone took them off. But she was really trying not to suck her thumbs. She really had been trying before too but when you're half asleep habits just sort of happen.

Last week I decided to give it a go without the wraps and she has completely stopped. Addyson's thumbs look AMAZING. Like have never looked this good since birth. No calluses!!! I was a little scared they might be permanent but apparently not. She is doing so awesome.

She also is working on the ABC song. She got a "puter" (computer) for Christmas - one of those pink and purple leap-tops and girl loves it. Sings the song over and over.

So she has accomplished a ton lately! Good work sweetie!!!

And Mr. Braden - um. . . . his 2 year molars have finally been pushing through over the last month or so. They are still not completely in but getting very close. To say that we will be happy when they are done teething is a HUGE understatement. Braden has had a rough, rough time getting every single one of his teeth. Hallelujah for that being behind us!!!!

He has also added the numbers 13 and 16 to his vocabulary. They fit in the order right along with his other favorite numbers - 2 and 7 - so his counting goes something like this - 7, 2, 9, 10, 13, 16, 2 , 7 , 2 , 7. I guess that's an improvement from where he started at 2, 1.

I'm pretty sure it's obvious that I did NOT miss my calling as a teacher - although you would think I might be better able to teach numbers and counting with my banking experience. Maybe I'll just get them a calculator for their birthdays. They'll be fine then.

So that's what we've been accomplishing at the Vogt household. I am super excited to see some progress - things were looking pretty discouraging around here last week. God's timing sure is interesting. I would totally not be surprised if Addyson decides tomorrow that it's not worth pottying in the potty chair and she could wear her pink pull-ups to college. She can totally play me. But for today I'm excited for some progress!

More Christmas 2011

Here's a quick look at the rest of our 2011 Christmas celebrations -

This is our Christmas party with our small group from church. We dressed up in our beautiful ugly Christmas sweaters. What a fun time with sweet friends!  And yes you are seeing correctly, everyone in our group has a newborn or is expecting! Baby Leo was born in October, Baby Gavin arrived in November, Baby Webb was born last week, and the Farney's little one is set to arrive before the end of the month hopefully!! And we are still waiting, but our little guy hopefully joins us this year!

Vogt Christmas-

Lots of time spent with cousins. Addyson and Braden adore their baby cousin Jenna. They are so sweet and careful with her. Makes me ache to see them with their new little brother - they will make an awesome big brother/big sister team.

There was a little bit of snow left outside so Braden needed to walk in it and make snowballs with his daddy!

He got kind of annoyed at how cold that snow was though!

Braden plopped himself close to Aunt Tami and opened presents with her.

Addyson was getting pretty excited about tearing off the paper! She loves presents!

the cousins with their pillow pets and chairs

and the whole family

Dyck Christmas -

fancy dress-up shoes for Addyson

Uncle Carlin and Aunt Angela are expecting a baby this summer so Addyson and Braden will have their first cousin on the Dyck side. We're all excited!!!

Braden and Grandpa Dyck played for hours with his new semi truck and cattle!!!

Sorry mom, I managed to miss getting your face in a picture!

We were also able to make it to my Grandma Nightingale's Christmas celebration and got a chance to see my Grandma Dyck too.

Whew, what a busy time of year so full of good stuff! No wonder we're still tired and recovering!!!

And now we're looking forward to all God has in store for us in 2012!

Christmas 2011 at The Vogt's

We hope that you all had a merry Christmas!
I'm finally getting around to posting - I have been fighting and fighting with blogger to get my pictures uploaded correctly. So sorry it has taken so long but I think I've figured out a way to make it work!

This was our best attempt at a family picture!
And as you probably noticed Ryan left his name tag on from church - we sure wouldn't want to forget who he was!!!

We had a great time celebrating! Addyson and Braden especially had fun this year. They loved opening presents! And spending time with cousins and grandparents, aunts and uncles, and great-grandmas. And singing "Away in a Manger." They were finally old enough to just go play with their cousins and they loved it! And I am really surprised at how they still want to know who bought them each gift. They ask pretty much every time they play with a present "who bought this for me?". Unfortunately sharing is not going so well. I'm sure all siblings fight over toys, especially new ones. But I think the fact that these two are exactly the same age makes the other's toys look extra enticing. So we are working hard at being loving and sharing with each other. Poor Braden thinks all Addyson's toys look awesome. He can be seen with pink toys most days, doing his hair and reading girly books. Oh well. He still makes plenty of time for his animals, trucks, cars, and trains so I think we're ok.

It was nice to have our celebrations spread out a little this year so we weren't so completely exhausted by the end! Plus I don't remember the last time that Christmas fell on a Sunday that we didn't have something planned with one of our families. We had a great time celebrating and worshipping at church - that was probably my favorite part. But next best was celebrating just our family of 4. We came home and opened presents before a quick lunch and naps. And then had a big Christmas supper. Addyson and Braden blew out candles for Jesus' birthday in our dessert.

What a great day celebrating the wonderful gift of hope and grace in Jesus. So thankful for this very best gift and all the others too!

More posts to come (hopefully soon!) to wrap up the Christmas posts.
