Look who's driving her pink jeep!!!
On Sunday night right before bath time Braden was playing in the living room and I went over to tell him it was time to take a bath and he told me he had pottied. Yep. Sure did. All over the carpet . . . and his pants . . .and undies . . . and socks . . . and . . . . I was feeling pretty discouraged in our potty training adventure. So even though I thought it was pointless I sat Addyson on her potty chair while Braden was playing in the bath tub as I cleaned up the afore mentioned potty accident. She needed to stay out of the way anyway so we might as well make her try. All of the sudden I heard something - it sounded like water running and I turned around and Addyson was pottying!!! This has NEVER happened for me before. Little girl pottied for Miss Twila over a month ago but absolutely nothing at all since then. I was so excited and telling her good job (and there may have been a little screaming and jumping around) that I scared her and she immediately stopped pottying. Monday she never went all day and we figured it was a fluke. But she was proud of her pullup and told me several times she needed to go and actually tried so I held on to hope that it would happen again. But on Tuesday she pottied 4, yes FOUR, times in the potty chair!!!!! I am so proud of her. I really didn't think that she would potty 4 times before her 4th birthday if you asked me last week. Crazy girl. I think she is catching on!!!! Woo-hoo. She stayed dry all morning and even told me that she needed to poop, and did. Yeah!!!! It is way too cold to play outside today so we backed the car out of the garage and these two drove around. There were only a few fender benders between the jeep and the tractor but nothing too serious :)
Another big accomplishment for Addyson -
remember all the pictures like this???
yeah - totally sucking those thumbs that she loved oh so much.
As you might remember last summer we played a game called "hide your thumb" and Addyson quickly gave it up . . . during the day that is. But at night I would hear her over the monitor sucking them really hard. They used to have HUGE calluses that would still get cut and bloody whenever she was getting teeth or seriously sucking those babies. I decided since potty training wasn't happening we should work on no more thumb sucking instead. Besides, thumb sucking was going to be affecting her teeth and her mouth forever while pottying had to eventually happen, right???
So, little girl wore wraps for naps and bedtime for about 3 weeks or so. It was just kids pre-wrap with some tape to secure it. And to our surprise she LOVED wearing them. She asked for them if we forgot her wraps. And most of the time she would leave them on until someone took them off. But she was really trying not to suck her thumbs. She really had been trying before too but when you're half asleep habits just sort of happen.
Last week I decided to give it a go without the wraps and she has completely stopped. Addyson's thumbs look AMAZING. Like have never looked this good since birth. No calluses!!! I was a little scared they might be permanent but apparently not. She is doing so awesome.
She also is working on the ABC song. She got a "puter" (computer) for Christmas - one of those pink and purple leap-tops and girl loves it. Sings the song over and over.
So she has accomplished a ton lately! Good work sweetie!!!
And Mr. Braden - um. . . . his 2 year molars have finally been pushing through over the last month or so. They are still not completely in but getting very close. To say that we will be happy when they are done teething is a HUGE understatement. Braden has had a rough, rough time getting every single one of his teeth. Hallelujah for that being behind us!!!!
He has also added the numbers 13 and 16 to his vocabulary. They fit in the order right along with his other favorite numbers - 2 and 7 - so his counting goes something like this - 7, 2, 9, 10, 13, 16, 2 , 7 , 2 , 7. I guess that's an improvement from where he started at 2, 1.
I'm pretty sure it's obvious that I did NOT miss my calling as a teacher - although you would think I might be better able to teach numbers and counting with my banking experience. Maybe I'll just get them a calculator for their birthdays. They'll be fine then.
So that's what we've been accomplishing at the Vogt household. I am super excited to see some progress - things were looking pretty discouraging around here last week. God's timing sure is interesting. I would totally not be surprised if Addyson decides tomorrow that it's not worth pottying in the potty chair and she could wear her pink pull-ups to college. She can totally play me. But for today I'm excited for some progress!
