Ethel, the bottle sheep, grew up and got huge. And lots of hot black hair was not a good match for summer so last year we sold her. And Braden was ok with it. She was huge and mean.
So we were left with 2 pygmy goats - Otis and Bernice, and 1 other goat - Helen. They grew big horns and got too big for Braden's idea of fun. The kids were scared of them and never wanted to see them. We finally decided it was time to sell them.
So daddy loaded them all up and we headed to the sale.
We said goodbye - they're in the middle pen and I know it's hard to see but it's the last picture we have of them! Big deal for Braden to say goodbye to his animals. Although he did ask what would happen to Chloe when she got old or mean. He wanted to eat her like we do the cows - no worries, we will in fact NOT eat our dogs. So he's very close to them but willing to eat it if it needs to be eaten. Interesting.
Braden thought sitting at the auction was the BEST THING EVER.
He could have sat there for hours. It was the middle of nap time but none of them cared. Braden was so intent. He loved seeing all the different animals and telling us all about what was different about them. He can talk for hours about farm animals.
Karina was mimicking all the noises the animals made. She was matching their pitch perfectly; it was crazy. She was so loud. People were starting to look, but you honestly could not tell the difference between her and the goats. Silly girl loved it.
Addyson thought it was ok. Just going somewhere is pretty fun!
Braden got so sad when we dropped off the animals and we decided we could handle one female sheep. He needs some chores and something to look after anyway. And then we won't have to mow the lagoon since it is actually raining this spring! We are thinking that getting something in the spring, selling in the fall, and buying something new in the spring might be a good plan. It is pretty cheap family entertainment to go to the goat and sheep sale after all. We are high class at the Vogt household, obviously.
Eventually we loaded everyone up and headed home. And realized our pickup is filled up!
Doesn't get much better than 3 sleeping kids!
We decided on the name Pearl. So welcome to the farm Pearl!
Just to keep the numbers straight, we are down to our two puppies, Chloe and Maddie. And our sheep Pearl.
And Skittles the pony resides at her summer home at the pasture. Life is good as she is sure to get apple wafers and visits from her favorite little boy.
That's the current pet count at the Vogt household. Always interesting; always changing. That's life on the farm.
