Summer

Since today is the official end of summer . . . being Labor Day and all . . . I figured it's about time I get to posting about our summer!

It's been a weird summer in these parts.

Harvest started late . . . and it seemed REALLY late compared to last year's early harvest.

A couple days into harvest Addyson got a fever and just felt crummy. For days. Ended up going to the doctor three days in a row. Her white blood cell count was wiped out from a few sicknesses in a row. Poor girl gets hammered with more than one regular virus and we have to work hard to avoid a hospital stay. We did. Thank goodness. Wheat harvest itself is tough enough. Add in a 3rd kid this year and a sick one and it was way more than I felt like handling. But we survived. And I only took a tiny amount of pictures.

Main story - the green combine worked. We harvested some wheat. God provided again :)

And then harvest was complete. I don't remember a whole lot of other details besides visiting the doctor, dropping off lunches, and forcing encouraging a certain girl to drink and stay out of the hospital.

We managed to go ride in the combine a few times. Addyson and Braden had gotten their own lunchboxes to match their backpacks for their last birthday and they were so excited to pack lunches and go eat with daddy in the combine. Definitely the highlight of harvest for them!!

Since harvest was late it was right on to the next thing on the farming to do list. I'm sure there were many actually. But another favorite is always helping haul bales home from the fields.

Karina is NOT excited when she gets left behind. She does not understand and throws a whale of a fit! This is the I'm so mad you left me look.

Little did she know in this case that in a few minutes we were going too. And she got the afternoon with mommy all to herself in the tractor.

The smiles returned . . .

And I got to watch her sleep for her nap. You know that little baby stage where you just sit and stare at your new baby??? Yeah, I missed most of that. So to watch all that sweetness when you don't have to chase her around yelling no and she doesn't talk back? Soaked up every moment of her sleepy piggy tail cuteness.

And then we chopped off that long hair. It was just getting to be too much.

And my goodness is her short hair super cute or what????

Then around the end of July it started to rain. And it rained . . . and rained . . . and rained. Flooded actually. Over 20 inches in about three weeks time. Insane. Creek near our house the highest the older generation has ever seen. Remember the last two summers when it was the driest they could remember?? Drought no more - now flooded. So thankful for our stained concrete basement floors. Easiest possible cleanup when the electricity goes out and the sump pump pours in water faster than lots of people can bucket it out. Yuck.

So what else are you to do but jump in puddles?

All three kids had SO much fun.

And of course they had to try to find the grossest dirtiest puddles that they could.

Here's some other things we did this summer:

swinging

and just hanging around . . .

This picture shows what goes on at our house a lot. Addyson is teaching Karina to color here but notice Braden in the background playing with his animals. Common occurence to see the girls doing something and Braden in the background doing something with his animals.

Look out - I think we may have a Twister champion on our hands. Addyson can do some pretty impressive moves :)

We got up early, dark early, to go with daddy to see cattle.

Snuggles with my favorite little boy after naps. Love that his little white legs match his mama's.

drinking bottles

And baking so we can lick the spoon.

Sisters telling secrets

and giggling.

Little sis looking cute!!

We cubed cattle with Ryan a few times. A neighbor's mama cow somehow found her way into our pasture. And had a baby calf!! This cute little guy was so fun to watch. Braden was so excited. He told us that he had been wanting a baby calf (he says he's saving his money up for one) and he thought this one was his. God had answered his prayers. Yikes. We had a little explaining to do :)

And Addyson has been busy cleaning. Oh the moment when you realize that she is old enough to clean up her OWN mess. There just might be hope after all. Someday it will get a little easier on mama!!

And lots of pretending!! Practicing up for preschool which starts soon!!
