Addyson and Braden continue to grow and work on their eating skills - both ate really well at times but then were completely worn out and sleepy at the next feeding. But they're trying really hard!
Our biggest challenge seems to be patience these days - we've been at the hospital long enough to get the routines down and start to know our babies pretty well. But each nurse has their own thoughts and ways of doing things - and the ways they think and tell us that we should be doing things. Some nurses are so wonderful and helpful and obviously love babies very much - but some nurses just seem bossy, slow, and set in their way that things must be done. We've started to realize sometimes it's ok to tell the nurse how you expect things to be done. They are our kids after all! But we're trying to be gracious as well. So you can pray that we would not get too fed up with the whole process and would be able to decide what information and suggestions to take and which ones to politely deny.
That last little bit is wisdom that you'll need for the rest of your life as parents. Trust me! You are the parents, they are your kids. It's fine to ask for advice, but you're right. Ultimately it is up to you and no one else. Do what works and just 'be'.
ReplyDeleteOh, I hope I'm not like the nurses you're talking about! The slow, stuck-in-their ways ones! LOL :)
ReplyDeleteI would have loved to come up and see you all tonight, but I had to race home to go to church with Jeff. It's Holy Thursday, and we celebrate the mass of the Lord's Supper. I hope you had a nice evening, though! :)
Reading this again brought back so many memories! I remember feeling overwhelmed with thankfulness that Ori didn't have significant problems but also filled with frustration over the fact that he couldn't figure out how to suck, swallow, and breathe! He was a little over 35 weeks when he figured it out. And it literally happened overnight and then they suddenly let us go home after he ate all of his feedings by mouth for 24 hours (prior to this we had no warning that we were even close as the nurses always say "by the due date" and he was home well before that). I had a few nurses who made me want to cry but most were WONDERFUL. Anyway, I am very encouraged with how well your babies are doing and am praying that they learn how to eat and that they will be home soon. It's hard. Thanks for your updates!
ReplyDeleteI hope I am on the "cool" nurse list! Tessia from NICU
